Lena Frischlich (PhD) and Christian Grimme (PhD) from the PropStop project took part in a discussion panel in the Südbahnhof Krefeld to inform the general public about social bots. The presentation was part of a series of events organised by the Werkhaus Krefeld.
The experts began by explaining the effects and mechanisms of social bots, followed by a demonstration of Dr. Grimme revealing how little knowledge of propaganda tactics is necessary to program a social bot. They also talked about the limits of artificial intelligence and Dr. Grimme highlighted the importance of media literacy and a basic understanding of programming laws, not only physical laws, to understand an increasingly connected world. Afterwards, the panelists took question from the audience, moderated by Harry von Bargen.
Here is a (German) report on the event by the Werkhaus.
